About the Podcast
The Trainer’s Edge is a Podcast for educational trainers. It’s about being a great trainer; helping you to expand, extend, enhance, light up and optimise your training skill.
The things they didn’t teach you in your trainer training.
The priceless things you can only learn in the wild.
The delights and the horrors.
It’s about having fun, the tips and tricks and strategies for engaging students; for inspiring curiosity, and lighting up imaginations.
And of course helping them pass the assessment.

0. The Trainer's Teaser
The Trainer’s Edge Podcast is coming soon. It’s called “The Trainer’s Edge” because training takes skills. The Trainer’s Edge will help you put a sharp edge on those skills, to expand, extend, and enhance them and make you a great trainer.
1. Inside the Trainer's Brain
Graham drills into the Trainer’s brain to reveal the ideal training mindset and discovers that it’s not about the Trainer, it’s about the students, it’s about training as work rather than a job; and he looks at building rapport, the value of life experience, and training adults. And more …
2. First Things Second
You never get a second chance to make a first impression. But that’s not the whole truth. Graham talks about the importance of how you make an entrance, how creating real value at the start of Day One can colour the whole program. And much more …
3. Soft Solutions for the Hard Parts
So you’re all rapported up with the students. But sometimes there are students who can be difficult, disruptive, or aggressive. Or just restless. How do you handle that? And what about when the whole class is confused? The simple pacing trick that works a treat.
4. Coaching & The Pumpkin Principle
You’re sure to come across students who need a bit of coaching. How do you do that? Here are some techniques that are simple and you don’t need to know their private thoughts to help them. The story of how Ali turned into a prince!
5. The Whiteboard & the Devil's Tool
The serious work in front of the whiteboard. Inspiring, motivating, empowering. Powerfully contextualising elements at the individual level. Using the whiteboard and when you don’t have to. And the horrors of Powerpoint.
6. The Joy of Paperwork & Other Horrors
How to make friends with the paperwork. What it really means, and learning to enjoy it.
Working with (and within) the regulations: why get a second and third opinion? Using learning theories without hurting your brain.
